The Garnett Public Library now has mobile hotspots to check out to the public. The portable hotspots provide internet access to families and library patrons who don’t have a connection at home. The lending program will allow students, parents, teachers and families, working and studying remotely, access to a free and reliable internet connection. The hotspots were partially funded with the E-RATE Emergency Connectivity Fund. The purpose of these funds is to help bridge the digital divide by providing connectivity for households with limited or no internet access.
The funding received by the Garnett Public Library is especially geared toward households that have school age children who need access to the internet. There will be no charge for use of the hotspots. Fifteen of them are reserved for households with children between the ages of five and eighteen. They may be checked out for 90 days by an adult over the age of 18. Five of them may be checked out by anyone over the age of 18 for 30 days. Patrons must have an up-to-date Garnett Public Library Card.
