Can you think of an organization or business in Ottawa that is 150 years old. The Plaza Theatre? No. Kansas State Bank? No. There aren’t many out there.
The Ottawa Library was first established in March of 1872 by 15 members of the Ladies Reading Club, with nine members paying one dollar in dues to start a library. In less than a year, it had grown to 57 members. The library grew larger over the years and tomorrow will celebrate 150 years by kicking off the celebration with a special reception at the library. This year, a little something to thank library patrons over the years, they have gone fine free. Youth Service Librarian, Paula Patterson:
The first celebration will be held at the library tomorrow! library staff will be serving cupcakes and there will be a lot of special balloon-giveaways. Don’t miss it. The all-day event runs from 9:00 to 5:00.
