Meta, the parent company of Facebook, plans to build an $800 million Data Center in northern Kansas City. The company hopes to open the one million square foot data center by 2024. It is expected to bring 100 jobs to the area. It will be located in the Golden Plains Technology Park along the border of Platte and Clay Counties.
Meta chose the location for its data center partly because of Kansas City’s Central location, which offers improved network connectivity between coastal data centers and stronger security. Missouri landed the data center by offering a package of tax breaks under the state’s Data Center Sales Tax Exemption Program. An economic development tool that incentivizes the location and expansion of data centers.
