Senator Jerry Moran, Co-Chair of the Senate Hunger Caucus, urged United States Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, utilize the Bill Emerson Humanitarian Trust to purchase U. S. Commodities to donate to food emergency situations:
Established in 1980, the bill Emerson Humanitarian Trust is an emergency International food aid program administered by the U. S. Department of Agriculture. Moran says in the last ten years, the Emerson Trust has been released just once, to meet unforeseen global hunger needs and this is a crisis that calls for it.
