The Garnett Police Department’s search for a shooting suspect is over. Authorities apprehended William “Chris” Vandenberg yesterday without incident. Details of how they located him and where, were not released.
Vandenberg was wanted for questioning in regard to a shooting in Garnett in the 700 block of West 8th Avenue, last Saturday. He allegedly fired several shots at vehicles and at a residence that was occupied by two adults and two children, in what authorities described as a “rolling gun battle”.
Vandenburg actually commented on his own ‘Wanted Poster’ on the Garnett Police Department Facebook Page, calling the allegations “fake news” and that he was contacting his attorney. That comment has since been deleted. He was also featured on the Miami County Sheriff’s Office “Wanted Wednesday” Post, which stated he was wanted on a warrant for Violation Offender Registration Act.
