One person was killed in a single vehicle accident in Bucyrus yesterday afternoon. According to a News Release from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, the accident took place just after 4:30, at the intersection of 223rd and Third Streets in Bucyrus. A resident made a 911 call to report the accident and said the vehicle had struck their residence and the driver was trapped inside the vehicle. When emergency personnel arrived on scene, they found a Dodge Charger on its passenger side in the backyard of 101 S. Third St., which sits at the corner of 223rd and Third Streets. The only occupant of the vehicle was the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation found that the vehicle took a wild ride. It was traveling east on 223rd Street, went over the railroad tracks in Bucyrus, lost control and went into the south ditch. Leaving the ditch at a high rate of speed, it went airborne, flew over 3rd Street, struck the top of a tree, hit the roof of a residence and went over a fence, landing in the back yard of the residence, on its side, trapping the driver.
There were two occupants in the residence at the time of the crash, but they were unharmed. The name of the deceased has not been released. The Miami County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash with the assistance of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and its Crime Lab .
