The Kansas Department of corrections will soon distribute playing cards inside prisons and jails, which feature Cold Cases from across the State. Most are unsolved murders; but, the deck also contains missing persons cases and unidentified remains. The idea is simple… perhaps an inmate or person in custody might have information they are willing to share.
One of those is a girl from Miami County featured on the three of clubs. Fifteen year old Tawnya Knight left a friends house in Spring Hill the evening of December 7th, 1996 to walk home. She was never seen alive again. Her skeletal remains were discovered in June of 1997 in a tree line near the Spring Hill Cemetery. Her mother, Lori Aubry Knight, formerly of Ottawa, is hopeful a new lead can help crack the case. She says she is very thankful that Tawnya is featured in the deck of cards; she is willing to do anything to get her case out there and let it be known that after nearly 26 years, her murder is not solved. She says she hopes somebody in prison sees the cards with her on it and just by chance happens to know something about the murder so they can bring justice to Tawnya.
If you know anythoing about Tawnya’s case, contact the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
