Highway 59, south of Princeton, reopened at 10:30 this morning, after being shut down following a fatality accident early this morning. The Franklin County Sheriff’s office and the Kansas Highway Patrol had been investigating the accident that was reported at 4:25 this morning, shortly after a report of an erratic driver came in that area.
The driver of the vehicle, which was reported stolen by the Garnett Police just after 4:00 this morning, fled the scene, leaving behind a horrific scene on the Highway. Law enforcement working the accident called for a search for the man and a helicopter from the Kansas Highway Patrol joined the search. That search went on for over an hour and Sheriff Jeff Richards would not confirm that the driver had been found.
None of the people involved in this morning’s deadly crash have been identified, pending the result of the investigation.
KOFO will have all the details as they become available.
