Back in January, USDA Economist were estimating food cost inflation would only run between 1.5 and 2.5% ; however, things have changed a bit since then. USDA Economist, Matt MacLauchlan, gave the latest forecast and offers some reason behind it:

On top of that, labor costs are up everywhere. So, unfortunately, don’t expect any relief from rising food prices any time too soon.
