A chaotic scene on South Main Street yesterday afternoon ended up looking worse than it actually was. A Jeep Cherokee, driven by Lawrence Brayn, was travelling southbound in the 1100 block of Main and rear ended another Jeep Cherokee, driven by Rebecca Erickson, as it was traveling south on Main. The collision caused Bryan’s vehicle to go into the northbound lanes and strike a Ford Escape, driven by Alexandria Skeet. That vehicle slid sideways into a tree. With debris from all three cars scattered over nearly and entire block, across all four lanes and all three cars sustaining heavy damage, all lanes, both north and southbound, were blocked.
Ottawa Police, Ottawa Fire and EMS were called to the scene. Initially six people were seen by EMS personnel; however, in the end, only one person was transported to Advent Health Ottawa, with minor injuries.
Ottawa Police Chief, Adam Weingartner, says fortunately it looked worse than it ended up being. Bryan was issued a citation for speeding. Main Street between 11th and 12th was closed for just over an hour while crews cleaned up the scene.
