The Kansas Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that a Congressional Map, drawn by lawmakers, is legal under the Kansas Constitution. That creates a landmark decision in the State Court that had never previously considered the legality of Gerrymandering. This might hurt the re-election chances of U. S. Rep. Sharice Davids, the sole Democrat from Kansas in Congress. Roger Heaton with more:
The re-drawn map will be in place for the next 10 years. The plan splits racially diverse Wyandotte County into two separate districts and shifted left-leaning Lawrence into the largely rural, Republican-dominated First Congressional District. It also moves Franklin County and Anderson County into the Third District with Miami and Johnson Counties.
