A big addition to the mental health needs of Douglas County residents will open soon. The treatment and recovery center will open later this month. It is part of the treatment and recovery campus of Douglas County and will serve community members with serious mental illness, substance use disorders and addiction issues. Staff will include mental health professionals, peer support specialists, behavioral health specialists, licensed addiction staff, case managers and psychiatric professionals.
The $10.6 million project is partially funded through a quarter-cent sales tax approved by Douglas County voters to improve behavioral health services and facilities in the County. Bert Nash Center CEO, Patrick Schmitz, says its his hope that because of support and access to services, the destructive cycle of untreated mental illness will be broken, and countless lives will be changed and improved. The opening comes just weeks after the National Mental Health Awareness Month in May.
