Severe storms rolled across parts of the KOFO listening area early this morning, some leaving a trail of destruction. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for Ottawa at 2:20 Wednesday morning, June 8th,2022 and winds up to 60 miles per hour blew through with brief heavy rain; however, the strongest storms seem to have been isolated to Miami County and Johnson County in the KOFO listening area. If you are heading to work in those areas, you need to be aware of power outages and damage from the storm. Over 60,000 people are without power in the metro and Miami County areas. The National Weather Service is working to determine if a tornado touched down along 95th Street in Overland Park and Raytown, Missouri. there are reports of trees down, buildings damaged and a lot of debris in the area.

The same is true in Miami County where they are working to determine if a tornado may have touched down in the area of 287th and Oak Grove and 280th and Somerset. Trees and power poles are down in that area. The Miami County Sheriff’s office reports trees down and debris littering the area around the Louisburg Cider Mill.

Be aware that there could be emergency vehicles and power crews in those areas, in your commute this morning.
