It’s going to be a very warm weekend and many of you are probably wanting to head to the lake to cool off; but, if you plan to utilize Garnett Lake this weekend, be aware that the Kansas Department of Health and Environment has determined that blue-green algae is present, particularly in the northeast area of Lake Garnett. The lake is under a blue-green algae warning and the City of Garnett is discouraging contact with the lake’s water. No swimming, wading, skiing or jet skis and be sure to not allow pets in the water. If you do come in contact with the water, wash with clean water afterward. If you are fishing, make sure you clean the fish well and discard the guts afterwards.
If you have any questions or would like to see a complete list of lakes in Kansas that have watches or warnings, check out the KDHE Website or Facebook page.
