A Republican candidate for Kansas Governor from Kincaid was arrested on charges of threatening two Anderson County Law Officers, in connection with a law enforcement investigation in progress against another Southern Anderson County man.
Arlyn Briggs of Kincaid, was arrested on an Anderson County warrant, alleging criminal threat and associated offenses. The charges are apparently rooted in a running feud between Briggs and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department; particularly Sheriff Vern Valentine and County Deputy David Harper-Head.
Briggs was arrested specifically in connection with a voicemail he left members of the Sheriff’s Department earlier in June. The voicemail warns the Sheriff’s Department employees to back-off their investigation of his friend, or they would be “tracked and hunted down like animals.” Briggs says while his language was fiery, he meant no harm in defending a family friend involved in his own legal troubles.
Briggs is a candidate for Governor in the Republican Primary against Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt.
