Tuesday morning, June 28th, just after 5:00, the Franklin County Sheriff’s office received a report of a stolen trailer in Richmond. After receiving a description of the vehicle, deputies went on a search. The vehicle was located eastbound on Hamilton at Nebraska Road. After a failed attempt to pull the vehicle over, a low speed pursuit ensued. After several minutes of traveling on country roads, the truck turned onto Nevada Road, where the road dead ends. The driver went into a field, damaging a gate and eventually became stuck in the muddy conditions. He fled on foot into the darkness in the woods surrounding the field.
Enter Franklin County canine officer, Duke. Duke was able to track the man directly to the tree he was hiding in. From that point, 35 year old Joseph Herrick of Burlingame, was taken into custody without incident and the trailer was recovered for the owner.
Herrick was charged with felony fleeing and eluding, felony theft and felony interference.
