The woman who led local law enforcement on a four-county chase Saturday, June 25, 2022, had her first court appearance yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, June 28, 2022. Thirty nine year old Rebecca Estrada faces formal charges including aggravated assault, interference with law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. Judge Kevin Kimball set her bond at $500,000. Estrada asked for a Public Defender and was assigned Attorney William Bayne. Her next court appearance is set for Wednesday, July 6th at 1:00 via zoom.
The pursuit involving Estrada, ended in the Love’s Travel Plaza parking lot with Estrada holed up in the cab of a semi truck for nearly four hours. Authorities say Estrada was allegedly smuggling several illegal citizens from countries south of the United States, to states east of Kansas. There is no word on the number of people allegedly being smuggled. The subjects that Estrada was allegedly transporting, have been identified and U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been notified of the situation. Further details on that aspect of the investigation are pending.
