It’s that time of year where more and more people are out mowing and raking their yards. That means more and more yard debris is ending up in the street. The City of Ottawa is enforcing an ordinance that most people know about, but many choose to ignore. Blowing yard waste, such as grass clipping and leaves into the street can cause big issues with storm water drainage and cost the Ottawa taxpayers money. Former Ottawa City Commissioner, Blake Jorgenson:
This can cause localized flooding issues, which could damage your property or properties around you. The City will be sending out courtesy notices to people who are in violation of the Ordinance asking them to correct the issue and provides some education about storm water drainage. You can find more information on the issue by visiting the City of Ottawa’s Facebook page, or calling City Hall and asking for the storm water information.
