August is “Clear the Shelter” month at animal shelters around the Nation. At Prairie Paws Animal Shelter, they try to place at least 100 animals in their ‘fur-ever’ homes, but in July they completed less than half the adoptions needed to meet their dog adoption goal. With animal shelters across the country overflowing with animals, Prairie Paws needs your help. Director Vanessa Cowie says there are over 2,000 feral cats roaming Ottawa and they have a program that can help. It’s called “Trap, Neuter and Release” Program, or TNR:

The program is run through the K-State Veterinary School. If you are looking to adopt a pet, this is the month to do it. All this month, almost all of the animals at Prairie Paws will have their adoption fee waived by 50%.

If you’ve been considering adding a furry new family member, now is the time!
