Duane Edward Bogner, 87, of Paola, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at his home.

Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 pm, Monday, July 1, 2024, at Dengel & Son Mortuary – Paola Chapel, 305 N Pearl Street, Paola, Kansas 66071. Visitation will follow from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral mass will take place at 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 501 E Chippewa Street, Paola, Kansas 66071. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Duane was born on May 3, 1937, in Dodge City, Kansas. He was the son of Bob and Alma (Stein) Bogner. Duane grew up on a farm west of Dodge City, and spent his early years helping out on the family farm. He attended Scared Heart Catholic School until the 8th grade. Duane attended St. Mary’s of the Plains High School, in Dodge City, and graduated with the class of 1955.

On October 3, 1959, Duane was united in marriage to Nancy Maskus, in Wright, Kansas. Together they had three children, Greg, Kenny, and Lisa. The couple lived in Dodge City, Kansas, Wright, Kansas, and Colby, Kansas, before making Paola their home for the last 24 years.

Duane joined the Kansas Highway Patrol in 1969. He was a faithful public servant for 27 years, before retiring in 1996. After retiring, he helped his son, Kenny, paint logos on the race tracks for NASCAR. 

Duane loved to fish and spend time outdoors. He was a great handyman that could build or fix almost anything around the house. Duane enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Alma Bogner; sisters, Darlene (Tom) Gleason, and Dolores (Robert) Engelhardt; brothers, Don (Maureen) Bogner, Dennis Bogner, and Delbert Bogner.

Duane is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nancy Bogner, of the home; three children, Greg (Marg) Bogner, of Belle Vista, Arkansas, Kenny (Chris) Bogner, of Stockton, Missouri, and Lisa (Troy) Lucas, of Ottawa, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Justin (Katie) Bogner, Kristin (Bryan) Bua, Kaylee (Jake) Silvers, Alisyn Lucas, Cody Lucas, Abby Bogner, and Jared Bogner; two great grandchildren, Connor Bogner and Eva Bogner; one sister, Donna (Leroy) Schawe, of Dodge City, Kansas, sister-in-law, Diane Bogner, of Leavenworth, Kansas, as well as many extended family members and friends.
