Evergy is once again warning customers about recent utility phone scam attempts. Scammers are posing as Evergy representatives, trying to deceive customers. They tend to target senior citizens, claiming Evergy is returning $200 to senior citizens through the company’s Evergy Cares Kansas Fund, then asking for customers’ account information, address and other personal information. This is a scam. Evergy says the fund does not give customers cash, but provides financial assistance directly to the customers’ account. To do this, customers must initiate contact with the company first.

A second scam focuses on discounts: scammers call customers claiming that Evergy could offer a discount if the customer provides their credit card number over the phone immediately. Do not give any information…this is a scam.

Evergy officials also warn of door to door scammers that ask for personal information. Company officials say Evergy will never go door to door offering any type of discount on utility bills.

Officials urge people to not give any personal information to anyone who calls you to offer deals or demands payment. Hang up and call the utility company directly to ask about your account and any specials or discounts that may apply to you.
