Steven M. “Steve” Schraeder, 63, of Ottawa, Kansas died Sunday, September 22, 2024 at AdventHealth Ottawa.

Steve was born October 14, 1960 to Charles H. and Darlene J. Schraeder. He grew up in Shawnee, Kansas and attended school at Flint Elementary and Hocker Grove Junior High, and was a member of the Shawnee Mission Northwest Class of 1979. Steve’s father preceded him in death.

Steve loved sports, playing lots of football in the neighborhood and competing in track and baseball in his youth. Steve also enjoyed camping, water skiing, fishing, boating, and music. After a medical discharge from the United States Army in 1981, Steve lived in Kansas City, Missouri, where he was a journeyman painter, a skill he learned from his father. He was also a paper hanger and a drywall finisher. In later years, Steve settled in Ottawa, Kansas, where he resided until his death. Steve’s great personality and love of life will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Steve is survived by two sons, Joel Schraeder and Eric Schraeder; three granddaughters, Nadia, Allison, and Skylar; his mother, Darlene Schraeder; brothers, Kenny Schraeder and Jeff Schraeder; sisters, Lori Bannister (Cliff) and Angela Rand (George); aunt and uncle, Janice and Ed Nuest; and several cousins; and longtime friend, Julie Rogers.

To celebrate Steve’s life, a Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, October 5th, 2024 at the Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067.  The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. before the service at the funeral home.  In memory of Steve, kindly consider a donation to the ALS Association.
