It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael Ray Ballard, aged 54, who departed this world on November 13, 2024. Michael was born on April 25, 1970, in Elkhart, Kansas, and he lived a life filled with joy, laughter, and a remarkable spirit that touched all who knew him.
Michael was the son of Janice Ogle and Walter (Wally) Ballard, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his brothers: Ty Ballard, David Forbes, Keary Forbes, Jeremy Forbes, and Jason Forbes. In addition to his family, he leaves behind a cherished circle of friends, including Peggy Noel, the Albright Family, and Beth Waddle, as well as his close family, friends, housemates, and caregivers at Lakemary Center, who provided him friendship and support throughout his life.
A graduate of Lakemary High School in 1991, Michael was known for his vibrant personality and zest for life. He worked for the LMC Shred business, where he was appreciated not only for his hard work but also for his friendly demeanor and willingness to lend a helping hand. Michael’s spirit extended beyond his employment; he was an active member of the community, participating in Meals on Wheels and volunteering at Prairie Paws. He also embraced the joy of competition as a participant in the Kansas Special Olympics, excelling in sports such as basketball, soccer, bocce ball, and cheerleading.
Michael’s interests were as varied as his talents. A lover of rock and roll, he was often seen with a smile on his face, delighting in the company of others. His exuberance shone brightly during talent shows, where he performed with passion and enthusiasm. He was known for his love of puzzles, his joy in Easter egg hunts, the thrill of opening presents, and his warm baking sessions, which brought friends and family together. Michael had a deep affection for dogs and enjoyed spending time with his friends, creating memories filled with laughter and love.
A true social butterfly, Michael was characterized by his warm-hearted nature. He was always ready with a hug, an infectious laugh, and a willingness to engage in conversation. His ornery spirit and vibrant personality left an indelible mark on the lives of those around him. He never missed an opportunity to lift others’ spirits, and his legacy of kindness and joy will forever be remembered.
Michael’s funeral service will be held at Dengel & Son in Paola, Kansas, on November 25, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Friends, family, and all those whose lives he touched are invited to celebrate his remarkable life and the joy he brought to each of us.
In this time of mourning, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff at Lakemary, his caregivers, and the hospital team who stood by him through his toughest times. Their compassion and commitment have been a source of comfort and support for Michael and his family.
Michael Ray Ballard will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew him. His spirit will continue to inspire us to live life joyfully, embrace our loved ones, and extend kindness to all. Rest in peace, dear Michael.
