OTTAWA — The Kansas Legislature convenes today and will try to resolve the state’s budget crisis. School districts are more nervous about the impact on state school aid. At Monday night’s school board study session, Ottawa Superintendent Dean Katt said because of state budget cuts, the district will cut 15 teachers and other staffers and will cut this year’s summer school. Katt said the notices of layoffs will go out immediately. Katt called the cuts painful but necessary.
