GARNETT — Garnett officials are running the numbers before they run to take economic stimulus money to build a water line from Cedar valley Reservoir to the water treatment plant at Crystal Lake at Garnett. The city has been awarded $1.1 million in economic stimulus funds for the project. However, $880,000 of it will be in the form of a loan. City manager Joyce Martin told the Anderson County Review that the city is looking at whether repaying the loan would cause an increase in water rates for Garnett residents. If the city accepts the money, the city will run a new 12-inch water line from the reservoir and build new pumps and a transfer station. Martin said the new line would improve the quality of the water and allow the city to sell water to other cities and water districts.
