OTTAWA — You might call it a friendly battle over who will be the new owner of the old Hawthorne Elementary School in Ottawa. Monday night, there was some expectation that the Ottawa Board of Education might give an answer but they decided to wait a while longer. Harold Wingert of the Grace Community Fellowship Church said they have decided to sweeten their offer of purchase. ECKAN is the other party wanting to use Hawthorne. The board asked an ECKAN representative to come back with more specific information on their offer. The board is expected to decide the fate of Hawthorne sometime in June.
