WELLSVILLE — Wellsville police kicked off the Franklin County Special Olympics Torch Run on Tuesday. Police Chief Steve Gillaspie said he and some of his officers have been involved in Special Olympics and wanted to bring the event to Wellsville. The community has enthusiastically endorsed it, he said. The torch run will resume in Ottawa Wednesday morning. Officers will run through downtown Ottawa and west to Eisenhower. They will go along Old 50 and go through Williamsburg and pass the torch to Coffey County officers at BETO Junction. The Special Olympics will begin June 5 in Wichita.
