OTTAWA — New federal maps indicate that flood zones in and around Ottawa are larger than city officials expected. City planning and codes director Wynndee Lee said southern Ottawa has been especially affected by the new maps. Under federal and state rules limit the types of development in areas described as flood-prone and Lee says the new map shows larger flood-prone areas south of 23rd Street, including some areas slated for development, including the Love’s Travel Center south of I-35 and U.S. 59. Some of those developers who plan to build in some of those areas will likely protest the new maps, she said. Lee said she plans to have public hearings on the new flood maps next month.
