TOPEKA — Several area rural fire departments are receiving money from the Kansas Insurance Department for volunteers are killed and injured in the line of duty. Insurance Commissioner Sandy Prager says more than $9.2 million will be distributed among firefighters relief associations across the state. The money is collected from fire insurance fees. Rural Franklin County fire departments will receive nearly $61,000; Anderson County nearly $52,000; Miami County more than $103,000; Osage County more than $41,000; Linn County more than $65,000.
