GARNETT — Three Garnett men, Thomas Hoffman, Arthur Black, Jr., and Thomas Egger; are expected in federal court next month to face a federal grand jury indictment in connection with firearms violations. The grand jury says Hoffman made false claims when he applied for a federal firearms license and opened Cedar Creek Outfitters in Garnett in 2005. All three men are charged with violating federal laws banning users of controlled substances and convicted felons from possessing firearms. Local and federal officers raided Cedar Creek Outfitters in November 2005. They seized 98 long guns, 43 hand guns, ammunition and other items. No arrests were made during or immediately after the seizure. A hearing in the case was set for Sept. 28.
