GARNETT — A specialty coffee shop could open on the downtown square of Garnett in early November if the weather cooperates. Contractor Mark Powls and his partner, Elizabeth Abraham, are building the Coffee Loft. The steel framing and concrete work is done and other utility work is being done. Powls told the Anderson County Review that he’ll use the original brick facing and arched windows so that the new building will match the architecture of the existing downtown buildings. Powls plans to have wireless Internet throughout the building, as well as a Wii attached to a 64-inch screen in a meeting room upstairs. The Coffee Loft will be open at least six days a week and possibly seven and will offer a limited food menu, as well as a full line of specialty coffees, teas and smoothies, he said.
