OTTAWA — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and the Ottawa and Wellsville police departments will share a federal grant for nearly $380,000 to create a central records data base and wireless network. The county commission accepted the grant Wednesday morning. Sheriff Craig Davis says 28 computer terminals will be installed in patrol cars. He said the three departments will share a central computer data base and officers will be able to file reports from their cars in the field, making officers more efficient and shorten emergency response time. Officers in the field will able to get routine information and criminal backgrounds without having to call the dispatch center – what Davis called a “silent dispatch” system. Because of the grant, the improvements are being done without costing tax dollars, he said
