GARNETT — Garnett city commissioners met in executive session during last week’s commission meeting to get an update of a long-running complaint against four major natural gas companies. City manager Joyce Martin told the Anderson County Review that Garnett and 22 cities with municipal gas systems filed a federal lawsuit nine years ago against Exxon, BP America, ConocoPhillips and Shell for what they say was a violation of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. Martin said the gas companies were collectively making large increases the price of natural gas, something the cities consider price fixing. The cities are trying to save money and to keep prices fair for their residents, she said. Several city managers and clerks have been to Washington to testify in the case. Although no court date has been set, Martin said the cities are making progress with their complaint.
