OTTAWA — Contractors for Kansas Gas Service are replacing gas meters in Ottawa. The contractors are now knocking on doors. They need to be able to enter houses to turn off gas to the house and to enter to relight pilot lights. The gas company said that in some cases, homeowners weren’t aware of the work and refused to let the workers in. However, the company confirmed that contractors will be knocking on doors. The company said the new wireless meters can be read from the road.
