OTTAWA — The Ottawa school board and other public bodies will have some new faces.
Ottawa High School student Zach George, a staffer for KOFO, began sitting with the school board Monday night as the student liaison from the Ottawa Youth in government.
School Supt. Dean Katt said that far as he knows, George will be the first student sitting with a school board. George won’t vote but he’ll take part in discussion and provide a useful voice for students to the board, Katt said. It’s a great idea, he added. Other Youth in Government representatives will serve on other boards: Darah Jorgensen on the Ottawa City Commission; Molly Rugg, Ottawa Recreation Commission; Jordan Gray and Kaitlin Schultz, Ottawa Main Street; Dalton Blankinship, Ottawa Library trustees; and Abby Guenther, Ottawa Chamber of Commerce’s Legislative Action Committee.
