OTTAWA — An early Saturday morning fire damaged a duplex in the 1000 block of South Walnut. Assistant Ottawa fire chief Richard Oglesby said both apartments were vacant when the fire occurred. The duplex was filled with smoke and the stairs and part of the upper floor in the northern apartment unit has burned out when firefighters arrived, he said. The cause of the fire is still undetermined, he said.
