OTTAWA — City manager Richard Nienstedt has asked that he not get a pay raise this year. The Ottawa City Commission extended Nienstedt’s employment contract for another year Wednesday but also agreed to his request for the pay freeze. Mayor Blake Jorgensen said that Nienstedt’s request was a result of the bad economy and because other city employees have had their wages frozen this year. The “what’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander” request illustrates Nienstedt’s management style, Jorgensen said. The commission will revisit Nienstedt’s pay next July, he said.
