PAOLA — A 59-year-old man is in the Miami County jail this morning after a gun battle and standoff with deputies west of Paola. Stephen Boucher is accused of firing several shots at a Miami County Sheriff’s sergeant Sunday night. Undersheriff Mark Schmidt said the sergeant was called to a domestic dispute at Boucher’s home in the 35000 block of West 311st Street. Schmidt said several shots were fired between the sergeant and a man at the house. He says no one was injured in the shootout. Miami County officers and state troopers surrounded the house. Schmidt said members of the Sheriff’s Response Team and the Johnson County Emergency Response team made contact with people in the house. Boucher gave up at 2 this morning. He is being held on attempted murder, criminal damage and domestic violence.
