OTTAWA — There won’t a downtown Lawrence in downtown Ottawa anytime soon. Ottawa city manager Richard Nienstedt said a proposal to turn the four-lane Main Street downtown into a two-lane with a third turning lane – a similar setup in downtown Lawrence — has received a red light from most commissioners and downtown business owners, and the proposal will be likely dropped for now. When the new U.S. 59 expressway is completed this month, the state will turn over the old 59 to the city and county.
