TOPEKA–Safe Kids Kansas is reminding everyone to be safe this Christmas. Never leave burning candles unattended, nor put candles on a tree or a natural wreath or near curtains. A battery-operated flameless candle is much safer. Also lights should be inspected for frayed wires or loss connections. Electric cords should never be run under a rug. If you get a natural tree, be sure it’s a fresh tree and keep it watered at all times. Christmas decorations should not have small parts or metal hooks, which pose a serious danger to children. Mistletoe berries, poinsettias, holly berries and other traditional decorations are poisonous if eaten.
