OTTAWA — Franklin County commissioners approved a proposal Wednesday morning to create a new Extension district covering Franklin and Osage counties. The Osage County Commission has already approved it. Franklin County Commissioner Don Stottlemire said he had some questions about the proposal but agrees it may work and might even expand once it’s proven successful. Extension members say the new district would provide better service to the two counties more efficiently. The proposal calls for an independent Extension district with its own taxing authority and elections for district board members. Taxpayers in both counties have 60 days to file protests.
