GARNETT — The city of Garnett is looking at setting up a special city foundation to help fund the conversion of the National Guard armory into a city recreation center and for other city projects. The city will receive the armory when the National Guard closes it later this year. City manager Joyce Martin said she has received several questions from residents or former residents about contributing money to a recreation center. The armory may be a catalyst for setting up a foundation for donations similar to foundations set up by the Anderson County Hospital and Anderson County USD 365, she said. Garnett city recreation director Josh Elliott said the potential for the facility are virtually limitless.
