OTTAWA — A public hearing on a special sales tax at the proposed Love’s Travel Center, I-35 and U.S. 59, will be held during the Ottawa City Commission meeting Wednesday night at 7. City manager Richard Nienstedt said the money from the sales tax would be used to pay for utility and other improvements at the travel center. The city would create a transportation development district and the proposed one-cent sales tax would be collected on sales only at those businesses in the district, he said. The Oak Park Mall in Overland Park is set up as a transportation development district, with shoppers paying an additional cent in the mall, he said.
