WELLSVILLE – This morning, the Kansas Highway Patrol hasn’t released the name of the three-year-old child killed in Saturday morning’s 30-vehicle pile-up on I-35 south of Wellsville. Franklin County Sheriff Craig Davis calls the chain-reaction crash the worst accident he’s ever seen in his 30-year of law enforcement career. Dense fog and slick roadways contributed to the pile-up. The crash occurred in the southbound lanes but entire road was closed as emergency workers treated accident victims in the northbound lanes. Many people were taken to hospitals throughout the region. The northbound lanes were opened Saturday afternoon after being closed six hours after the crash. The southbound lanes were opened Saturday evening after more than 14 hours. Those who weren’t injured were taken by bus to the Olathe Fire Department Administration Building to meet their families.
