TOPEKA — Two state senators have asked the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for ideas to keep toxic toys imported from China off Kansas store shelves.
Senate Majority Leader Derek Schmidt, R-Independence, and Assistant Majority Leader Vicki Schmidt, R-Topek – no relation, sent a letter to KDHE secretary Rod Bremby after an Associated Press investigation reported several small trinkets and play jewelry for children contained the poisonous heavy-metal cadmium. They said it’s the second time in two years that parents have had to worry about the safety of toys bought from stores in Kansas.
