KANSAS CITY — Democratic state senator Chris Steineger, Kansas City, said he’s a candidate for Kansas secretary of state. He has been a state senator for southern Wyandotte County for 13 years. He said if he’s elected, he’ll continued the tradition of operating the office in a non-partisan and professional manner. He joins what is proving to be a crowded field in the race to succeed Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh, who isn’t running for re-election. Three Republicans are running. Democratic securities commissioner Chris Biggs is also considering a run for the office.
