OTTAWA — Gerry Ferguson, rural Ottawa, has been building a series of soil and water conservation structures on his property and on properties he leases. Ferguson, who will be among those honored by the Franklin County Conservation District at the annual meeting Thursday night with the Bankers Award for good conservation practices, said landowners should adopt conservation to save the quality of their soil and farms. Besides terraces and waterways and other such structures, he follows no-till and low-till farming practices to cut water and wind erosion of soil.
