OTTAWA – U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts announced that the Ottawa Fire Department has received a federal grant of more than $14,000. He said the grant was one of 21 totalling $1.24 million to be given by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to fire departments across the state. Fire chief Jeff Carner said he hasn’t been officially notified. However, the grant request was to buy special laundry and extractor equipment to clean firefighters’ turnout gear. He said the special equipment cleans out smoke and soot particles as well as cleans the heavy safety gear.
