OTTAWA — The fate of Levi Houston goes to the jury today. Attorneys will make their final arguments this morning and the case will be sent to the jury. Houston has been charged with kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated intimidation of a witness and other charges in connection with an argument June 9 with his long-time girlfriend. After county attorney Heather Jones ended her case, defense attorney Fredrick Meier ended his case by showing a video of Houston and the woman’s seven-year-old daughter being questioned by a detective. Jones tried to question the girl Wednesday morning but the girl broke down. Meier said that the girl was unwilling to return to court Wednesday afternoon to testify and he told District Judge Thomas Sachse that he opted to show the recorded interrogation. Playing the recording was the only testimony presented on Houston’s behalf. He didn’t take the stand. The case has included a twist. After talking to police and testifying against him during the preliminary hearing, Houston’s girlfriend refused to help prosecutors during this week’s trial.
