BALDWIN–A long time coach at Baldwin High School may have a sports complex named after him. Recently a Baldwin School Board Member proposed naming the high school soccer field and practice track facility the “Merle Venable Sports Complex.” Venable came to Baldwin High School in 1966 and left in 1984, but he continued as a substitute teacher for many years. During his 19 year tenure, Venable was head football and track coach every year. He led the Bulldogs to a state championship in 1981 and state runners-up in 1971 and 1978.
